Price Chopper Store Brand Milk Eliminates Artificial Growth Hormones

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper brand milk, the No. 1-selling fluid milk product at the grocer here, now contains no artificial growth hormones, a fact that will be featured in the chain's Feb. 11 weekly circular.

Price Chopper v.p. public relations and consumer services Mona Golub explained that the change was "in response to growing consumer demand for assurances as to where food comes from and how it is processed."

Golub told Progressive Grocer that while the artificial-hormone-free milk resulted in "a cost differential to us by the fluid gallon, [a higher price] would not be passed on to consumers."

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates 115 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Price Chopper's approximately 25,000 associates collectively own 54 percent of the company's privately held stock.
