Pro & Son's Ranch Market to be Honored for Excellence at Hispanic Retail Conference

NEW YORK -- Mike Provenzano, president of Pro & Son's Ranch Market, will receive the first Hispanic Retail Excellence Award in the food retailing industry, at next month's Hispanic Retail 360 Conference & Expo, produced by the Retail Group of VNU Business Media and VNU Expositions, based here. The Progressive Grocer brand is also part of VNU.

Provenzano and his management team, including sons Michael, Steve, Rick and Jeff, operate five stores in southern California and California's Central Valley, and four in Phoenix, Ariz. Ranch Markets is noted for its "out of the box" thinking, while its stores are known for their focus on fresh foods, and on meeting the specific needs of their diverse communities. One of the fastest growing Hispanic market chains in the country, the company also operates a new 80,000-sq.-ft. corporate office and warehouse in Ontario, CA.

The award will be presented during the Monday evening cocktail reception, which will top off the first day of the conference, Sept. 26, at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The Hispanic Retail 360 Conference & Expo will continue through the afternoon on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The award is based on input from leading experts in Hispanic retailing, including members of conference's 21-company Retailer Advisory Board. It is designed to recognize leadership among retailers targeting the growing Latino population. The Advisory Board, representing retailers with more than 42,000 stores and more than $190 billion in annual revenue, also heavily influenced the content of the conference program. The board includes retailers from across all channels, such as Target Stores, Food Lion, Minyards, 7-Eleven, SuperValu, Pathmark, HyVee, H.E. Butt, Shell Oil, Chevron Corp., BP/ampm, Meijer, Dollar General and Rite Aid. The full list of advisory board members and updated agenda may be viewed online at http://www.hispanicretail360.com. The Web site also offers additional information and online registration.

Provenzano is a member of the board of directors of Unified Western Grocers, and has served as chairman of that organization's Hispanic Committee Division. He is also former chairman of the board of the California Grocers Association, a member of the executive committee of the National Grocers Association and member of the Arizona Food Marketing Alliance Board.

Charter sponsors for the conference and expo include Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Busch, Tree of Life, Energizer, MBR Industries, Procter & Gamble, Gallo, and Gatorade.
