Publix Opens First Middle Tenn. Fuel Station

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets will open its first Middle Tennessee gas station later this year in Franklin, Tenn., in response to similar moves made by market competitors Kroger, Wal-Mart and Food Lion, according to press reports in the Nashville press.

Publix officials are reportedly working on finalizing design plans for the pumps and accompanying convenience store at the Franklin Marketplace outlet off Highway 96, which was the only one in the group of stores Publix had bought from Albertsons in 2002 to feature a gas station.

The press reports said while Publix officials were mum on details concerning future plans for fuel sales, its new suburban Nashville location will bring the 850-store company's gas station tally to seven.
