Publix to Rethink Food Donation Policies with Safety in Mind
LAKELAND, Fla. - Publix Super Markets is taking a fresh spin on its food donation policy after meeting with local food charities this week. Before the meeting, the regional retailer had decided to stop donating meats, fruits, and vegetables from its stores to charities, due to concerns about food safety. However, an outcry of concern from those charities has it reconsidering.
Publix officials met with the United Way and Palm Beach Harvest, a large food bank that gets more than 3 million pounds of food annually from Publix, late Wednesday to talk about the food safety issues.

Publix spokeswoman Anne Hendricks did not offer a timeline on when the retailer will start donating again, according to published reports. She said Palm Beach Harvest's food handling and storage would be inspected.
