Publix's Lakeland Division Raises Nearly $115,000 for Nine Community Nonprofits

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets and its customers and associates have raised almost $115,000 through the six-week holiday-season "Food For All" program. The Food For All fundraiser appeared in all Lakeland-area Publix Super Markets from Nov. 20 to Dec. 31.

Customers were offered the opportunity to select $1, $3, or $5 donation coupons at the register as they were checking out, and the selected coupon was scanned and added to their final grocery bill.

Nine local nonprofit agencies received funding from the program, including the Agape Food Bank, America's Second Harvest of Tampa Bay, The Salvation Army of Hillsborough County, All Faiths Food Bank, Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, Mayor's Feed the Hungry Program, Meals on Wheels Plus, Suncoast Food Bank, and the Volunteer Way.

"Food for All allows us to give back to worthy community-based organizations that fall under one of three anti-hunger strategies, which are self-help, job creation, and/or food security," said Maria Brous, Publix's director of media and community relations, in a statement.

"For many of these type programs, funding has been cut, and for others, operating budgets cannot begin to capture the essence of what is needed for the job they do. This is why year after year, our associates are committed to supporting the Food for All program and our customers continue to support the program with their generous donations," added Brous.

Since 1988 Publix Super Markets' Lakeland Division has teamed with Food For All to run in-store, point-of-purchase fundraisers. To date, Publix Lakeland has raised nearly $2.5 million for local nonprofit beneficiaries.

Food For All partners with over 8,000 other retailers across the country, and has raised more than $50 million since the organization's inception in 1985.
