Raley's Rio Rancho, NM Store Debuts Play Care Center, Java City Café
RIO RANCHO, N.M. -- Raley's has added two super-convenient services for patrons of its superstore in Rio Rancho, N.M. with a new Play Care Center and full-service Java City Café.
The new play center, located inside the Raley's, offers a place for children ages 2-8 to play for free while their parents shop in the store. The center has toys, videos, games and coloring books and is open weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
"Parents can now shop in comfort while their children play, read and enjoy supervised activities," said Kevin Konkel, Raley's New Mexico division v.p. and g.m. "With the addition of both the Play Care Center and the new Java City Café, grocery shopping can be an experience, not just another chore."
Play Care is available on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum of 15 children allowed at any one time. To ensure each child's safety, parents will fill out a short registration card and provide a photo ID when checking them in and picking them up. The center is also monitored by a security camera.
"Our Play Care Center is staffed by employees who were chosen for their compatibility with children," said store director Sally Jo Doyle. "They are trained in safety procedures and security routines, certified with background checks and qualified to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)."
Raley's also added a full-service Java City Café, where customers can sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry while visiting with neighbors or reading the newspaper. And soon the Café will also be equipped with wireless Internet access provided by SBC FreedomLink.
Raley's, which has operated stores in New Mexico since 1999, first developed its Play Care Centers in 1992. The privately-owned supermarket chain, with headquarters in West Sacramento, Calif., is comprised of four banners -- Raley's, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source -- located in Northern California, Nevada and New Mexico.
