Refrigerated Foods Association Hosts Sept. Symposium, Plant Tour in Canada

ATLANTA -- The Refrigerated Foods Association (RFA) here will host a one-day symposium and plant tour in Kitchener, Ont., Canada on Sept. 13. The educational and networking event will include expert speaker presentations on marketing and technical topics, combined with a guided tour of the Keybrand Foods manufacturing facility in Kitchener.

"The RFA Symposium offers a unique opportunity to take an up-close tour of a state-of-the-art refrigerated foods manufacturing plant," said RFA spokesman Mark Reser. "This valuable experience, combined with a half-day of educational speaker sessions and a networking luncheon with others in the industry, make this a must-attend event for anyone involved in the refrigerated foods business."

The symposium will be divided into two tracks -- one with a marketing focus and one concentrating on technology. Participants will choose to attend the track that fits their area of interest.

The marketing track will feature a morning presentation by Mark Jensen, v.p. of product strategy at Schwan's Consumer Brands North America. Titled "Chilled Food Means Cold Cash," this presentation will offer insights into the prepared chilled foods market and its growth potential.

In the afternoon, attendees on the marketing track will travel to the Keybrand Foods manufacturing plant for a guided tour of the facility, and pay a visit to a local retail food store in Kitchener.

Attendees on the technical track will take a morning tour of Keybrand Foods that will focus on the food safety and quality assurance aspects of the plant. In the afternoon, three expert speakers will give presentations on a variety of topics, including third-party auditing and the merits of ISO 22000, conducting environmental scans to provide intelligence on emerging microbiological trends, and novel decontamination methods for the fresh produce industry. The two tracks will meet at midday for a networking luncheon.
