Robbers Prey On Houston Area Grocery Shoppers

HOUSTON - Female grocery shoppers here are being warned to watch their backs, literally.

Unusual robberies that have happened during daylight hours find H-E-B's Central Market at Westheimer, Texas warning its customers about a series of armed suspects preying on unsuspecting shoppers.

According to reports in the local media, investigators say the armed suspects watch from a distance for women who walk out of the grocery store with an arm full of groceries and appear to be easy targets. Once the predator has located the next victim, he follows them home and robs them, and police said it has happened repeatedly in the area surrounding the Westheimer Central Market.

The store and the Houston Police Department are warning its customers about the recent spike in crime.

Store clerks are now putting a piece of yellow paper inside at least one of every customer's bags that tells them who to look out for and what has been happening.

HEB said the Westheimer store has two security guards -- one who patrols the parking lot, while the other guards the front door.
