Sainsbury to Offer IT Training to Customers

LONDON - UK supermarket chain Sainsbury is partnering with the Learning and Skills Council to offer IT training to its customers via in-store learning centers, CIES--The International Food Forum reports.

Sainsbury has said it plans to establish three in-store learning centers by March 2003. The centers will offer some 200 courses at varying experience levels. Customers will be able to attend sessions and then shop for groceries since classes will be conducted during normal store hours.

The training centers are part of a government-sponsored initiative to enhance IT skills in the UK.

Sainsbury ran a 22-month pilot program at its Reading store through which 3,000 participants graduated, according to CIES.
