Schnucks' In-store Deli Wins Food Safety Award from County

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A country health department lauded the deli at Schnucks Markets' Dardenne Prairie, Mo. store as one of 11 local foodservice establishments demonstrating excellence in sanitation and food safety, as well as successful employee education.

Glen Turnbough, store manager, and Vivian Healy, deli manager, accepted the award on behalf of the family-held chain.

Officials from the St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment the agency created the “24 Carrot Gold Food Safety Excellence” award honor local foodservice operations for their commitment to serving wholesome food.

“While every foodservice facility under our jurisdiction meets food safety requirements, these 11 establishments exceed the standard,” said Pieter Sheehan, the department's environmental public health manager. “We hope the recipients prominently display their award.”

To be eligible for consideration, recipients of the “24 Carrot Gold Award” cannot have any critical violations in the last 12 months, and no more than six non-critical violations in the same time period. In addition, at least 90 percent of the food facility managers at the establishment must have valid food safety certification.

The facility must also have a valid St. Charles County Food Establishment Permit and be in good standing with the Department of Community Health and the Environment.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
