Schnucks Taps Behr to Head Facilities/Maintenance Team

ST. LOUIS -- Schnuck Markets, Inc. here said it has hired John A. Behr, 47, formerly of the Hussmann Corp., as director of facilities/maintenance.

The family held chain said Behr will oversee the maintenance of facilities as well as refrigeration, heating, A/C and other support equipment, in line with Schnuck's mandate to ensure continued energy and environmental efficiencies throughout its operations.

Reporting to chairman and c.e.o. Scott Schnuck, Behr will be responsible for equipment at more than 100 combination food and drug stores, as well as Schnuck's central kitchen, bakery plant, dairy plant, and warehouses.

He began his career as a research engineer at Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill., and in 1986 relocated to Columbus, Ind. to work for Cummins Engine Co. After joining Hussmann in 1987, Behr held a number of positions covering every aspect of equipment R&D and engineering. As v.p./engineering, Behr was responsible for overseeing the design and development of the next generation of refrigeration equipment and also partnered with food retailers across the globe to deliver the most up-to-date solutions in refrigeration.

Behr, a registered professional engineer, will succeed John Muller, 62, who is retiring after nearly 31 years with Schnucks.
