SimonDelivers Celebrates Five Years by Expanding Its Reach

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - SimonDelivers, a pure-play online grocery retailer serving Minnesota, is celebrating five years of serving families and businesses in the metropolitan area with the expansion of its delivery service into the downtown area.

"Hitting a five-year anniversary is a milestone for any online retailer," David Gandrud, SimonDelivers' director of marketing, told Progressive Grocer. "But this is something we have been able to achieve by offering convenience, variety, value, and freshness -- especially when it comes to our perishables."

A special celebration will be held the evening of Thursday, Sept. 16, during which SimonDelivers and the Foshay Tower will unveil the "World's Largest Birthday Candle." Using high-powered aircraft beacons and theatrical red gel, the SimonDelivers candle will tower over the 32-story building.

The celebration will also be the kickoff of the company's expansion of its delivery service targeting downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. "The 30,000 people in these downtown areas do not have any strong grocery providers –- brick and mortar or online –- to offer the service and variety we have," said Gandrud. "We will also offer delivery services for medium and small businesses, including food and cleaning supplies."

Recently SimonDelivers exceeded its 2 millionth order and broadened its geographical service area to include Rochester, Minn. For SimonDelivers' customers, the definition of household has also expanded to include high-rise apartments, condominiums, small businesses, and assisted-living facilities.
