GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Spartan Stores has promoted Jeanne Norcross to v.p. corporate affairs and Cliff Sasfy to v.p. real estate management.

Norcross joined Spartan in May 2000 as director of corporate communications and will continue to handle company communications, community relations, and corporate contribution. Before coming to the company, Norcross was v.p. of marketing and corporate communications for Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bank in its west Michigan and southeast Michigan regions, held senior-level positions in marketing and corporate communications at Spectrum Health, and worked as a television anchor and reporter in three Michigan markets.

In his new role, Sasfy, who directs the development and management of real estate for Spartan's 75-store retail chain and oversees the areas of construction services and facilities, will now also participate in various corporate strategic and tactical planning initiatives. Sasfy was promoted to director of real estate in April 2001, after Spartan's August 2000 merger with Food Town, where he served as director of corporate real estate. Before joining Food Town, he was v.p. real estate operations at an investment banking firm. Sasfy has additionally been a member of Spartan management teams, serving in the area of retail store development.
