Stater Bros. to Award $186,000 to Area Charities

COLTON, Calif. -- Stater Bros. Markets here will give $186,000 to 31 charities in San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Kern counties.

According to Stater Bros. chairman and c.e.o. Jack H. Brown in a statement, "Helping our friends and neighbors in need is the Stater Bros. way."

The money was raised through the "Food For All" program, which operates in all Stater Bros. locations. Food For All lets Stater Bros. customers and employees buy a $1, $3 or $5 donation card at the checkout counter while paying for their groceries. The funds are used to create grants to local charities that serve the communities surrounding Stater Bros. stores. The grocer has raised more than $2 million in this campaign since 1987.

Stater Bros. will award $6,000 Food For All grant checks this week to each of the designated organizations, which address such issues as hunger relief, domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, and mental health.

The largest privately owned supermarket chain in California as well as the largest private employer in both San Bernardino and Riverside counties, Stater Bros. operates 163 supermarkets and employs over 17,000 associates. The retailer also owns and operates Heartland Farms, provider of Knudsen Dairy products to Southern California.
