Stater Bros. to Break Construction Record With New Store Opening

COLTON, Calif. -- In what it claims would be an industry record, Stater Bros. plans to open a new full-service supermarket at the East Highlands Shopping Center in Highland, Calif. this November -- just 26 weeks after the store's groundbreaking ceremony, which will take place next week.

"This new Stater Bros. supermarket will take only 26 weeks to build, which is an unprecedented timetable," said Jack H. Brown, chairman and c.e.o. of Stater Bros. "A first class supermarket, for a first class city."

While Stater Bros. has served the community of Highland for over 30 years from a store at East Highland Avenue and Palm Avenue, this will be the first Stater Bros. supermarket located within the boundaries of the City of Highland.

The 44,000-sq.-ft. unit will feature:

-- Full-service meat department with butchers provide cooking tips
-- Full-service fresh seafood department
-- Deli offering a complete selection of salads, premium deli meats, domestic and imported cheeses, sandwiches-to-go, including the new "Sandwich Classics" using La Brea rolls, party trays, quick and easy hot lunches and dinners, and "Golden Fried Chicken"
-- Hot bakery featuring daily fresh baked artisan breads, cookies, rolls, desserts, and custom-made cakes for all occasions, including picture cakes
-- Expanded "Garden Fresh" produce department featuring more than 700 items
-- Floral department offering fresh-cut flower bouquets, silk arrangements, potted plants, and balloons
-- Full-service Super Rx pharmacy

The new store will also incorporate new energy efficient skylights to incorporate the use of day lighting and help the environment.

Stater Bros. operates 162 supermarkets, and employs more than 17,000 associates. Itss sales in 2005 were $3.4 billion. Stater Bros. also owns and operates Heartland Farms, provider of Knudsen Dairy products to Southern California.
