Stater Bros. Breaks Ground for New Supermarket

COLTON, Calif. -- Today Stater Bros. Markets is holding a groundbreaking ceremony to dedicate the site of its latest full-service supermarket in Southern California, which will be in Apple Valley, Calif.

The store will be located at 12253 Apple Valley Road and will be part of the new 25-acre Apple Valley Towne Center. As well as a Stater Bros. Supermarket, the Apple Valley Towne Center will feature Lowe's and Walgreens stores.

Stater Bros. has been serving the community of Apple Valley since 1988, and the company currently runs another supermarket in the town, at 21610 Bear Valley Road. The grand opening for the second Apple Valley store is slated for December of this year.

The 44,000-square-foot market will be built by Stater Bros. Development, which serves as the general contractor for Stater Bros. Markets. Among the planned features at the site are service meat, fresh seafood, more than 700 produce items, and a pharmacy.

The grocer will also open three additional full-service supermarkets in the Southern California communities of Adelanto, Fontana, and French Valley (between Hemet and Temecula). During 2005, Stater Bros. will open a total of five new supermarket locations.

Stater Bros. chairman and c.e.o. Jack H. Brown said in a statement: "I am very proud to bring this newest and most modern full-service Stater Bros. Supermarket and the members of the Stater Bros. 'Family' back home to Apple Valley." Brown, who spent his early childhood in nearby Victorville, noted, "My dad rode his horse and I rode my pony all through what is today Apple Valley."

Stater Bros., the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California, currently operates 161 Supermarkets and employs over 16,000 associates.
