Steven Rodman, D'Agostino's Director of Deli Ops, Dies
NEW YORK -- Grocery industry veteran Steven Rodman, who joined D'Agostino March 20, 2006 as its director of deli operations, died April 11, according to the retailer. The cause of death was a heart attack. Rodman, a Long Island resident, was 51 years old.
Rodman spent more than 30 years in the supermarket business. Starting out as a part-time deli clerk in a Big Apple market in Flushing, Queens, he rose to become a deli clerk at a Pathmark store; and later a deli manager at a Foodtown Melmarket. In 1978, he joined Waldbaum's as a deli manager, and then in 1983 became district deli supervisor. In 1991, after 15 years with Waldbaum's, Rodman joined Dan's Supreme, a Key Food cooperative, where he handled deli operations for 15 years before moving to D'Agostino.
D'Agostino has not yet determined who will fill Rodman's position until a permanent successor is found, said company spokeswoman Mary S. Moore.
Rodman is survived by a wife and two daughters. Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow morning at Gutterman's, located at 8000 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, N.Y. The phone number is (516) 921-5757.
