Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover Offer Seasonal Flu Shots for Less

This year, Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover are offering seasonal influenza immunizations at a lower price to Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover cardholders in the pharmacy department through Nov. 26, or until quantities last. For over 20 years, the Ahold USA banners have provided seasonal flu shots under their “Health & Wellness” initiative.

“As part of our continued commitment to provide value to our customers, [we are] offering seasonal flu shots for $20 when customers use [their loyalty cards],” said Jim Wonderly, VP of pharmacy operations for Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover. “Unfortunately, many Americans are foregoing medical care because of increased costs, and we want to do our part by offering affordable immunizations during these challenging economic times.”

The program began at most of the banners’ stores on Friday, and will expand to all of their stores in the next month. Immunizations will be provided by certified and trained store pharmacists and through banners’ partnership with Maxim Health Systems and their trained health care professionals. The cost of the seasonal immunization is $30, but customers with a loyalty card can save $10, making the cost just $20.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people at higher risk of having serious seasonal flu complications should be vaccinated annually. Those at risk include children ages 6 months to 19 years, pregnant women, people 50 years of age and older, people with certain chronic medical conditions, and people who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities

Additionally, Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover are working with local and state officials and the CDC to obtain the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine.
