Success Confirmed for Second Edition of SIAL Montreal Exhibition

MONTREAL - More than 686 exhibitors from 37 countries presented their products to 13,345 professionals in the food industry at SIAL Montreal 2003, the second North American edition of the International Food, Beverage, Wine and Spirits Exhibition held April 2-4. Top-ranking participants occupied individual exhibition stands as well as 20 national pavilions, namely that of the United States, which doubled its exhibition area to 3,800 square feet for this second edition of the event. Buyers from 77 countries came out to check out the latest products from around the globe.

"We are extremely satisfied with the results we succeeded in attaining despite the current global economic and political context," noted Alain Bellefeuille, general manager of the show. "This edition was also a turning point, since we were faced with another challenge: that of adapting this imposing event to a new environment, an enlarged Palais des Congres, and of presenting an expanded offer on one sole level."

Bellefeuille said the performance of this year's show exceeded the 2001 edition by 7 percent in terms of net exhibition space.

The three-day show brought together 14 sectors of the food industry, from the hotel and restaurant sectors, to the food processing, distribution and export sectors.

Organizers are already working on the show's next edition to be held from April 13-15, 2005, at the Palais des Congres de Montreal. "For the third time, SIAL Montreal will offer a privileged access to the most important food market and the largest free trade zone in the world: the NAFTA market and its 405 million consumers," Bellefeuille said.
