Super Fresh Allocates Up To $1 Million For Local Schools

BALTIMORE – Super Fresh will allocate up to $1 million in cash to local schools through its new School Partnership program that will enable customers to turn grocery purchases into funds for much needed educational resources, the chain said.

The Super Fresh School Partnership, the largest community service initiative in the company's 22-year history, has begun during the 2004-2005 school year for all public, private, and parochial kindergarten, elementary and secondary schools in the A&P division’s market areas throughout Maryland, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

According to Super Fresh president Bhavdeep Singh, the chain will contribute up to $1 million to local schools this year as part of the company's ongoing commitment to enriching educational programs for children and families. "We believe our role as a neighborhood grocer goes well beyond offering the freshest food and friendliest service in our stores," Singh said. "Taking an active role in our community is a mission that's central to our corporate philosophy."

Through the program, customers earn one point for every dollar spent. Additionally, customers can earn Extra Credit Points by purchasing designated products throughout the store. At the end of the fall and spring semesters, Super Fresh will distribute money to the designated schools based on points earned from customer purchases.

Eligible schools can use Super Fresh Partnership funds as they choose to provide a wide range of educational needs, from computers and playground equipment to special field trips and ongoing academic programs.

The first Super Fresh opened in Philadelphia in 1982 and the chain now operates in 76 stores in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
