Supermarkets to be Honored During MDA Telethon
TUCSON, Ariz. - Four supermarket chains will be honored during this weekend's annual Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy for their efforts at raising substantial funds to find a cure for the disease.
Kings Super Markets, Parsippany, N.J., raised $963,935 through selling MDA Shamrocks Against Dystrophy and golf tournaments.
Copp's Food Center, Eau Claire, Wis., raised more than $200,000 in its six-year sponsorship of the charity. This year it raised $36,598 through MDA's Aisles of Smiles program and a carnival.
In 2002, Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper raised $446,776 through MDA's Aisles of Smiles and Shamrocks Against Dystrophy programs, as well an Evening Under the Stars gala event, a Super Sample Program, and golf tournaments.
Fareway Stores of Boone, Iowa, raised $100,009 in 2002 through the Aisles of Smiles and Shamrocks Against Dystrophy programs, as well as float sales and golf and bowling tournaments.
