Supervalu Buying 8 Wyoming Albertsons Units

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Supervalu Inc., here plans to acquire what it called eight "high performing" stores in Wyoming from food and drug retailer Albertsons LLC.

Supervalu will operate the stores in Casper, Cheyenne, Cody, Gillette, Laramie, and Sheridan under the Albertsons name. All include an Osco in-store pharmacy. The grocer already operates two Wyoming Albertsons stores, in Rock Springs and Jackson.

"These are high-performing stores that are well-positioned in their markets," said Pete Van Helden, e.v.p./Supervalu Retail West, adding that the Albertsons "name has long symbolized great customer service in the state of Wyoming."

The Wyoming Albertsons will become part of Supervalu's Intermountain West division, which operates 243 stores in Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and North Dakota.

The two parties involved did not disclose the terms of the acquisition, which they expect to complete in late January 2008, subject to customary government approval.

With estimated annual sales of approximately $44 billion, Supervalu holds leading market share positions across the U.S. with its approximately 2,450 retail grocery locations including more than 920 in-store pharmacies.
