Supervalu Rolls Out Redbox DVD Rental Kiosks
MINNEAPOLIS - Following a successful test pilot, Supervalu here is rolling out Redbox fully automated DVD rental kiosks AT a number of its corporate banners, as well as in hundreds of its independent retailer account stores.
The Redbox DVD rental kiosks -- which will soon be available in Supervalu's Acme, Albertsons, bigg's, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher's, Jewel-Osco, Scott's Food & Pharmacy, Shaw's, Shop 'n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy and independent customers' stores -- enables customers to use a touch screen to select a movie and pay with a credit or debit card.
"Offering our customers in-store DVD rentals is just another way we are striving to make our customers' busy lives easier," said Duncan Mac Naughton, Supervalu's e.v.p./merchandising and marketing. "This service will enable our customers to combine two trips and save time."
Each fully automated Redbox DVD rental kiosk holds more than 500 DVDs, representing more than 70 of the newest movie releases, with new titles available every Tuesday. Consumers use a touch screen to select their favorite movies, swipe a valid credit or debit card and go. They can keep the DVD for as long as they'd like for $1 per night plus tax, and return their DVD to any Redbox kiosk nationwide.
Customers can also visit http://www.redbox.com to choose titles online and pick them up immediately at a Redbox location.
Redbox is co-owned by Coinstar and McDonald's.
