Supervalu Taps Kaczynski to Head bigg's
MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has named 25-year industry veteran Steve Kaczynski as the new president of bigg's, its 13-store chain based in Cincinnati.
Kaczynski replaces Pierre Wevers, who recently retired. He will report to Roger Davidson, s.v.p. and c.o.o., Supervalu Retail Food Companies. "We are excited to have a strong merchant like Steve rejoin the Supervalu organization," Davidson said. "His fresh approach to grocery retailing will be a valuable addition to both Bigg's and the greater Supervalu organization."
Kaczynski most recently was s.v.p. of sales and marketing at Boulder, Colo.-based Wild Oats, which he joined in 2001. He began his career in the grocery industry in 1970 at Martin's Super Markets, and worked at Supervalu from 1981 through 1990, ultimately becoming corporate director of meat, seafood, deli, and smokehouse.
In 1990, Kaczynski joined Giant Food Stores, Inc., where he eventually was named e.v.p./sales and marketing.
