Tentative Agreement Reached in Arizona Labor Dispute
PHOENIX - Safeway and Fry's and their 14,000 food clerks in Arizona have reached a tentative agreement in their labor dispute, the Associated Press reports.
The supermarket chains have been in negotiations with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99 since autumn. Employees had been working under a temporary contract extension since October.
Safeway and Fry's have announced that workers would start voting on the new contract June 23. The contract's terms weren't revealed.
At issue are health care and pension benefits, reductions in Sunday pay, and a proposed system that would offer new hires fewer benefits and lower wages.
