Tyson Foods Issues New Sustainability Report

While all companies are presently focused on the economics of their business, a growing number are also monitoring their social and environmental performance, among which includes Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods, Inc.

In a new, 64-page corporate responsibility report, "Sustainability - It's In Our Nature," Tyson outlines its economic, social and environmental efforts, which company officials call their "triple bottom line."  Tyson's first such report was issued two years ago.

"We believe sustainability is essentially doing the right thing, whether it involves protecting natural resources, creating alternative energy or feeding the hungry," said Richard L. Bond, Tyson's president and c.e.o. "It's our hope the new report will show how sustainability is a natural outgrowth of Tyson's Core Values and how we strive to take ethical and social responsibility in the way we do business."

The new sustainability report, which covers fiscal reporting years of 2006 and 2007, addresses a wide variety of topics, from ethics, environmental protection and resource conservation to worker safety and health, food safety and animal well-being.

It also highlights Tyson's efforts in such areas as new product development, renewable energy, community involvement and hunger relief while also listing some of Tyson's sustainability goals.
