United of Oklahoma Upgrades POS; Adds Mobile Back Office

ALTUS, Okla. -- United Supermarkets of Oklahoma plans to upgrade its existing point of sale system to one that provides added promotional flexibility, and a mobile office system that will allow managers to spend more time on the sales floor.

The regional chain with 26 food stores in the state will install the new system, called the Advanced Checkout Solution (ACS) from Duluth, Ga.-based NCR Corp., starting in October. United currently uses NCR RealPOS terminals and NCR RealScan bar-code scanners.

"We made the decision to go with ACS after previewing the solution and seeing its advanced capabilities," said Chris Smith, information technology director, United Supermarkets. "In addition to the proven promotional flexibility, we are eager to deploy the solution's mobile manager feature, which will enable our store mangers to provide better, faster service to customers on the floor."

The ACS Mobile Retail Manager gives store managers interactive access to back-office applications from anywhere in the store via wireless handheld terminals, such as PDAs. ACS Consumer Marketing Module, another capability of the solution, allows users to promotional pricing programs to customers with or without a loyalty card.
