Wal-Mart's December Sales Strong
BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said December sales at U.S. same-store sales are on track to meet the target set forth in its earlier forecast, according to published reports.
The company said in its weekly sales update today that same-store sales, or sales in stores open at least a year, are tracking in the middle of its prediction of 1 percent to 3 percent growth for the five weeks ending Dec. 31.
Wal-Mart experienced strong food and general merchandise sales over the past week and saw gift cards sales rise "significantly" from last year.
Additionally, sales for the day after Christmas exceeded expectations, according to the retailer.
