Walgreens Renews Agreement with The Nielsen Company

Walgreens yesterday renewed its agreement with The Nielsen Company through 2013, under which Nielsen will provide the drug chain with category management, business planning, and merchandising services.

Nielsen will also provide Walgreens with a range of consumer data and insights, as well as Nielsen Answers Retail Edition, a custom analytics platform designed for retailers.

"Nielsen has been a strong partner in developing the insights that allow us to tailor the right mix of merchandise to appeal to our broad, coast-to-coast customer base," said Walgreens v.p. of purchasing David Van Howe. "Today we are testing more products and services than at any point in our 107-year history. Access to consumer data at the local market level will be critical as we continue to seek new ways to attract customers with the most convenient access to everyday solutions."

"Walgreens is clearly committed to understanding and serving their customers' needs," said John Lewis, president and c.e.o., Nielsen Consumer Group, North America. "We're eager to continue helping Walgreens [by] providing quality data and insights and top-notch client service, combined with the power of integration."

Walgreens operates 6,252 drugstores in 49 states and manages 172 convenient care clinics at Walgreens drug stores.
