Wegmans Could Anchor D.C.-area Mall
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. here and Macy's could be the anchor stores of a proposed high-end mall in Virginia's well-heeled Prince William County, where the population is booming.
The board of bounty supervisors will vote Feb. 7 on whether to approve Mills Corp.'s Potomac Center project, which includes the two stores, a 150-room hotel, and 500 luxury loft apartments. The board is currently hammering out employment and transportation details related to the project, the Washington Post reported. Arlington, Va.-based Mills has also been working with Potomac Communities, Prince William's revitalization plan for the Route 1 corridor, to accommodate the county's requirement of 500,000 square feet of office space.
Wegmans spokeswoman Jo Natale told the Post that the grocer sees the site as a good place to expand because of "the new housing growth, access from I-95, and the proximity to Potomac Mills, a regional draw."
Wegmans has recently begun moving into the Washington, D.C. area in earnest, with stores in Sterling and Fairfax, Va. and Hunt Valley, Md.
