Wegmans Debuts Fine Dining Restaurant

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Rochester, N.Y.-based retailer Wegmans has opened a 114-seat fine dining restaurant featuring items such as pasta carbona, seared yellow fin tuna, jasmine rice tempura and ginger sesame dressing, The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports.

Tastings is in a 10,000-square-foot, two-level building with the bar and restaurant downstairs and banquet, private dining and meeting rooms upstairs. It is adjacent to the Pittsford, N.Y. Wegmans Food Market.

Wegmans has said that if the restaurant is successful, it could be replicated at some of its other superstores.

Chef de cuisine Russell Ferguson said the restaurant is designed to try to reflect the store, instead of maintaining a separate identity.

The menu features tasting portions of the entrees at a little more than half the regular price as well as standby favorites. Most desserts will be provided by the store's Patisserie. Appetizers will be priced from $3.50 to $8; desserts are $6. More than 100 different wines will be available, including several New York state labels.
