Wegmans Promotes Danny, Colleen Wegman to New Posts

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., the supermarket organization deemed by Fortune magazine as the best company in America to work for, has appointed Danny Wegman as its new c.e.o., and named Colleen Wegman the company's new president.

Danny Wegman, 57, replaces his 86-year-old father, Robert, as c.e.o., although the latter will remain as chairman. Danny Wegman has been the company's number two executive behind his father for some 30 years. Colleen Wegman, in turn replaces her father, Danny, in the president's post.

"I will carry on my role as chairman of the company, but the time is right to establish a structure for the future," said the elder Wegman. "I am confident that our company is in good hands, with Danny as its c.e.o. and Colleen as president. We will continue to be a strong and vibrant company with tremendous potential for growth."

Colleen Wegman first joined the family business in 1991 and since that time has had a number of assignments, including store manager and director of e-commerce. She was also responsible for the development of Wegmans' Nature's Marketplace departments; and in 2002 was named s.v.p. of merchandising. She is a 1994 graduate of the University of Colorado and in 2000 received an MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester. In her new capacity, Colleen Wegman will report to her father.
