Wegmans Puts Out Fizzy Alert

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. here has alerted shoppers to a potential problem with unopened 33.8-fluid-ounce bottles of Wegmans Blueberry Lemon Frizzante with a UPC code of 77890 31497, after multiple reports of excess pressure in bottles causing the liquid to forcefully spray out when the bottle was opened, and one reported instance of a bottle bursting.

This alert covers product purchased on or after Dec. 1, 2006, according to Wegmans. Already opened bottles don't present a hazard. The Blueberry Lemon flavor is the only one affected by the alert.

To prevent unnecessary handling of the product, Wegmans has requested shoppers not to return unopened bottles to the store, instead recommending customers to dispose carefully of the product at home by putting unopened bottles in a garbage bag, tying or sealing the bag, and putting it in an outdoor garbage container. Customers should be careful while handling this product, the grocer cautioned.

As compensation, customers who bought the beverage on or after Dec. 1, using their Shoppers Club card will get a coupon in the mail directly from Wegmans.

Customers with questions or concerns about this alert can contact Wegmans Consumer Affairs Department at (585) 464-4760 in Rochester or toll free at 1 (800) WEGMANS (934-6267) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
