Wegmans Replacement Store Slated in Buffalo
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Exactly eight months after the Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. store on Dick Road in Buffalo, N.Y. was razed, the Northeast retailer's newest location in the area is set open on April 2. The replacement store measures 100,000 square feet and will employ 340 associates.
Store manager Carl Scanlon Jr. said the store "now has the space and facilities to offer our customers exciting offerings that we've never had before." Among the new features are a Market Café, and bigger prepared foods section, headed by Chef Derek DiSorbo; a brick oven to bake fresh artisan breads daily; a Wokery; and a Wkids Play Center.
"We're also happy to welcome back so many of our Dick Road employees, who've been temporarily working at our other stores, along with a substantial number of new ones," added Scanlon. "With our new departments and services, we've increased our total number of employees in the store from 200 to 340, and our total number of employees in western New York now numbers more than 4,500."
Noted Wegmans consumer affairs manager Ann McCarthy in a statement, "As our very first store in this area, it was the Dick Road Wegmans that introduced us to our customers in western New York. And almost 30 years later, some of the same employees who started with us in 1977 remain with us today." The original store is well known to local residents for its opening during the now-legendary blizzard of 1977.
Family-owned Wegmans operates 70 supermarkets in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.
