Weis Markets Issues Recall of Wampler Foods Ready-to-Eat Deli Products

SUNBURY, Pa. - As part of a voluntary nationwide recall for selected Wampler Foods Ready-to-Eat Deli products that may contain Listeria, Weis Markets on Thursday said it has issued a voluntary recall for two Wampler Turkey meat products sold in its store delicatessens.

As a precaution, Weis Markets said it is recalling:

-- Wampler Foods Lean and Lite Turkey Breast, sell by date: 10/21/02

-- Wampler Foods Smoked Turkey Breast, sell by date: 10/7/02

Wampler Foods' voluntary recall is the result of inspection results from one product sample on one production date at its production facility in Franconia, Pa. All samples from batches produced since this production run have tested negative, according to the company.

Weis Markets officials emphasized that the recall of the two Wampler products was a precautionary step and noted that no inspection has resulted in a positive Listeria finding in products sold by Weis Markets stores in six states. Wampler Foods said the strain of Listeria found did not match the strain involved in the death and sickness related to incidents in the Northeast United States.
