Whole Foods to Build Huge Dallas Flagship

AUSTIN, Texas -- Whole Foods Market Inc. here plans to build an 80,000-square-foot flagship store in the highly competitive Dallas market, according to a report in The Dallas Morning News. If all goes according to plan, the store will open in early 2007.

The store will be located in a new 33.5-acre mixed-use development at Park Lane and North Central Expressway in north Dallas, according to the report.

The large format is big even by Whole Foods' standards, as many of its new stores average about 50,000 square feet.

Whole Foods will be in direct competition with the upscale Central Market format operated by Texas-based retailer H.E. Butt Grocery Co., as well as United Supermarkets' Market Street format. Whole Foods already has six stores in the area.
