Whole Foods Does the Mashed Potato for Food Banks

AUSTIN, Texas - It's one-potato, two-potato at Whole Foods Market here, which is running a "Buy One, Give One" community giving program in conjunction with Alexia Foods, which markets a line of frozen mashed potatoes.

Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Alexia Foods will donate one pound of mashed potatoes for every unit sold at Whole Foods between Oct. 29 and Nov. 11. The donations will be made in January. Although it is being run nationwide, each Whole Foods store will select a local food bank to be the beneficiary.

"Whole Foods is passionately committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and this program offers an exciting opportunity to deliver quality food to those in need during the holiday season," said Kate Monteilh, national public relations director for Whole Foods Market.

"We have the potential to feed 250,000 hungry people nationwide and it is important to Alexia that we make this program successful," said Alex Dzieduszycki, president and c.e.o. of Alexia Foods. "Everyone in the community can make a difference, and we are pleased that Whole Foods Market is helping us to accomplish this."
