Whole Foods N.J. Stores to Host Healthy Lifestyle Workshops

AUSTIN, Texas -- Whole Foods Market here said yesterday it will offer a special series of healthy-lifestyle workshops in March to celebrate National Nutrition Month, at its three northern New Jersey stores.

"Whole Foods Market believes in hands-on educational efforts that empower people to become more successful when it comes to making informed and important choices about their dietary needs for their long-term health and well-being," said Ellie Spray, a spokeswoman at Whole Foods Market in Ridgewood, N.J., in a statement.

The Ridgewood Whole Foods unit will offer a complete workshop series every Wednesday evening in March. The other two northern New Jersey units, in Edgewater and Montclair, will offer one-day workshops.

Whole Foods engaged New Jersey-based HealthBarn USA, Inc., healthy-lifestyle education provider, to develop the workshops. Nutrition expert and HealthBarn founder Stacey Antine, MS, RD, will be on hand at the events to provide practical guidance about nutrition and beauty topics.

Workshop topics will include:

-- A Natural Approach to Healthy Weight, offering hands-on information about natural foods and super nutrients; the glycemic index; and how to incorporate whole grains into meals.

-- Fabulous Fats, which will help consumers avoid trans fat by using a variety of all-natural fats in cooking, baking, and as finishing oils in everyday recipes.

-- Out-of-the-Box Snacking, with family-oriented natural snack ideas.

-- Natural Beauty, offering tips on how natural foods can help improve consumers' skin, hair, and attitude.

-- Wholesome Secrets of the Fountain of Youth, based on the latest scientific research about "must-have" natural foods that are rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals.

Shoppers will be able to partake in recipe tastings, and a raffle of assorted all-natural products during the workshops. Participants will also receive educational hand-outs and a healthy-lifestyle bag.

National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
