Wife of Draeger's Market Co-founder Dies

SAN FRANCISCO -- Mary Antonette Draeger, the wife of Frank Draeger - one of two brothers who created the Draeger's Market gourmet supermarket format- died this past weekend following a two-year battle with lung cancer. She was 82.

Mary Antonette Draeger was born in 1948 in San Francisco, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. Draeger and her husband Frank lived in Hillsborough for 50 years and frequently went to San Francisco to feed the homeless. They attended St. Bartholomew's Church in San Mateo.

A family-owned operation that was started by Gustave Draeger as a delicatessen in 1925, Dreager's Market today operates three upscale food stores in the San Francisco area.
