Woodman's to Enter Milwaukee Market With Big Store
JANESVILLE, Wis. -- Woodman's Food Markets Inc., an operator of giant supermarkets throughout that state of Wisconsin, is debuting in the Milwaukee area with a 237,000-square-foot, $15 million development in Oak Creek, according to published reports. An unused part of Delphi Corp.'s automotive parts manufacturing complex, which was sold this summer to developers, is being razed to make way for the store.
Woodman's operates or is currently building 11 stores in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Each store carries about 67,000 to 70,000 items. The store in Oak Creek will have 250 employees, including 80 full-time workers.
The company plans to begin construction by next fall, after the site is rezoned and the present building razed. The store will take a year to 15 months to complete. Two additional stores are likely for the Milwaukee area, according to the city's Journal Sentinel newspaper.
The predominant store in the area is Pick 'n Save, which will have four stores in close proximity to the new Woodman's.
