Yoke's Fresh Markets Plans Store No. 13
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Washington state independent Yoke's Fresh Markets is responding to growing demand in the city of West Richland with a new 56,000-square-foot market, its thirteenth, slated to open in early 2006.
The store will feature a new barn-replica exterior with lots of surprises inside, including a Cheese Shoppe with over 300 cheeses from around the world, a Wine Cellar with more than 2,000 selections and a strong emphasis on Washington and Northwest wines, a deli/cafe with seating, Yoke's Cattle Company meats and Pier 39 Seafood, a pharmacy, bakery, Windmill Farms Produce, and Mountain View Floral and Gifts.
Yoke's is well known in the state for its work with local growers, wineries, and Certified Hereford Beef ranchers. Its stores' community-focused décor typically include such novelties as regional antiques, pictures collected by local historians, and barn replicas over the dairy case. Seagull sounds are featured in the seafood departments, called Pier 39, which give customers the sense of standing on a dock.
West Richland is the latest city in the growing south-central Washington market for Yoke Fresh Markets, s.v.p. and director of store development Denny York told Progressive Grocer. "There wasn't a grocery store in the area, and we'd had our eyes on it for about four years," he said, noting that the population of West Richland is moving toward 15,000. Competitors in surrounding areas include a Wal-Mart supercenter, warehouse operator WinCo, and Safeway and Albertson's.
Yoke's, an employee-owned operator, was established in 1946. The company has stores throughout Washington and in Kellogg, Idaho.
