ACNielsen Retail ACView Monitors Competitive Landscape for CPG Retailers

SCHAUMBURG, IL -- ACNielsen U.S. yesterday launched Retail ACView, a Web-delivered service that gives retailers a complete view of their total-store competitive performance, both nationally and within their local markets.

The launch occurred during Consumer 360, the educational and networking event for the consumer packaged goods industry. Consumer 360 is sponsored by ACNielsen and Spectra, businesses of VNU.

Diane Roberts, director of merchandising services at Giant Eagle, said, "Retail ACView gives us important new insights into our business performance, highlighting market share trends for ourselves and our competitors at a level of granularity that has never been available. It has already become an essential tool for evaluating our position in each of our market areas and will assist us in future planning."

ACNielsen Retail ACView is the only service in the CPG industry to offer retailers a trended view of their market share on a total-store, all-commodity-volume basis across the grocery, drug, and mass merchandise channels, individually and combined. Using TDLinx, an ACNielsen brand, the service also monitors store openings and closings within these channels, as well as in the club and dollar store channels.

The new service was developed in cooperation with an advisory board of ACNielsen retailer clients and is currently employed by several of these organizations.
Retail ACView allows clients to:

--Monitor their market position and understand whether shifts in market share were caused by changes in store count or organic sales

--Quantify the results of specific competitive activity within their markets

--Analyze seasonal share changes across channels over time

--Publish reliable top-line results for senior management and the investment community
Additionally, flexible web-based reports let users toggle between retail channels and a variety of geographies, including individual trade areas and commonly used market definitions (Designated Market Area, Metropolitan Statistical Area, and Scantrack Major Market).

ACNielsen Retail ACView is available now. For more information readers should contact their ACNielsen representatives or call (800) 988-4ACN.
