Bristol Farms Opens 12th Location, First in 5 Years

CARSON, Calif. -- Bristol Farms here opened its 12th store, in Westchester, Calif., this past weekend. The unit is the first new store in five years for the Albertsons-owned regional chain.

"The neighborhood and surrounding community is an exceptional fit for a specialty store like Bristol Farms," said Kevin Davis, president, chairman and c.e.o. "Our specialty food and fresh product mix is unique to the area, and will fulfill a need that the Westchester community has been hungry for. We place a heavy emphasis on the peripheral departments, including our deli and cheese departments, restaurant quality grab-and-go foods, specialty full service meat, seafood and sushi departments, and our locally grown fresh produce."

The new store features a decor package designed to celebrate and highlight the surrounding community. "The store has wetland and early 40's and 50's murals that show off the rich South Bay history," said Davis.

The store features:
-- A large selection of produce from around the world, including locally-grown natural and organic items
-- Hand picked seafood, delivered daily
-- Organic and free range poultry, antibiotic, hormone-free and air-chilled, known for its for freshness and flavor
-- Hormone- and antibiotic-free, American-raised, all-natural beef, including prime and prime aged beef with a dry-aged beef locker on site
-- More than 300 different types of artisan chesses

Bristol Farms is one of the chains that Supervalu will inherit in the Albertsons deal, expected to settle later this year. It is widely expected the new owner might seek opportunities to export the upscale format, or major strategic elements from it, to other markets outside of California.
