Canadian Retailer Planet Organic's Product Division Awarded With Site License

SASKATOON, Sask. -- Darwen Holdings, the product distribution division of natural and organic foods retailer Planet Organic Health Corp.-owned Sangster's Health Centres, has been awarded a site license under the Canadian government's strict new Natural Health Products Regulations (NHP).

"The NHP legislation is designed to ensure the safety and efficacy of the natural health products sold to Canadian consumers," said Raymond Takashima, Sangster's product development manager. "Site licensing is required to manufacture, package, label, import, or distribute natural health products in Canada. Only those who have proven to be in strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for storage, handling, and distribution are awarded a site license under NHP regulations."

The only Canadian retailer currently with a site license designation, Sangster's is Canada's longest-running franchised retailer of natural vitamins, food, body care, and sports nutrition supplements, as well as the first vitamin retail franchise company to be publicly traded on the TSX Venture Exchange.

"The awarding of this site license further strengthens customer confidence in the purity and safety of Sangster's Health Centre's products," said Darryl Sangster, v.p. of business development for Sangster's. "It ensures both the retailer and the retail customer with the guarantee that every ingredient in Sangster's products has passed strict quality and safety testing."

Planet Organic operates 48 Sangster's Health Center Stores, five Planet Organic Market Natural Food Supermarkets, and a vitamin manufacturing plant called Trophic Canada.
