Food Lion to Unveil New Look in Mid-Atlantic

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion said yesterday it is unveiling fresh makeovers at 26 stores in the tri-state area of Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia.

To support the stores' new interior design, Food Lion is kicking off a promotional campaign called, "Food Lion's Fresh Makeover Celebration."

"This is an exciting time for Food Lion and our customers, as we celebrate a fresh, new look, a greater selection of products, a new dedication to service, and a renewed focus on delivering the freshest and best foods every day," said Gaelo de la Fuente, Food Lion regional v.p. of retail operations, in a statement.

"Since February, we have worked hard to make our stores more attractive and provide an enhanced shopping experience," he added. "We have paid special attention to our fresh departments -- produce, meats, and deli/bakery. The new and more inviting interior design signifies our commitment to offer the freshest produce, the best quality meats and an expanded selection in the deli and bakery, a far greater number of natural and organic products, plus more wines and imported beers."

To celebrate the work's completion, each store will hold a grand "re-opening" ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 21.

In many of the stores, Food Lion's natural and organic products are highlighted in a store-within-a-store section called "Nature's Place." These sections approximately 1,400 natural and organic products, including chips, cereals, baking ingredients, pastas, juices, cookies, soy items, teas, soups, bulk items, frozen foods, refrigerated dairy products, pet products, and household items. Many of the products are non-dairy, gluten free, and wheat free.

Food Lion said the renovations will not lead to higher prices, keeping with its low-price message in the tri-state region. The work is part of the company's budgeted resources for capital improvements.

Food Lion LLC, a subsidiary of Brussels-based Delhaize Group, operates more than 1,200 supermarkets under the names of Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar Food, Harveys, and Reid's.
