FreshDirect Expands Into the Hamptons, Launches Chef-Prepared Menu

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. -- As Manhattan descends on the Hamptons for the summer season, online grocer FreshDirect, plans to follow suit, expanding its home delivery for the 2005 summer season to Hamptons residents and vacationers.

Service will begin just in time for Memorial Day BBQs and celebrations, and will continue throughout the summer until Labor Day. Home delivery service will be available for residents and vacationers in East Hampton, Amagansett, Southampton, Bridgehampton, Westhampton, Sag Harbor, Hampton Bays, and select surrounding areas. In addition, a convenient drive-through pickup location in Riverhead will be open Fridays.

Home delivery windows will be scheduled in two-hour blocks between afternoon and early-evening hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and morning through afternoon on Saturday. Wednesday service will be added based on customer demand. A minimum order for Hamptons customers will be $100.

"With our home delivery service, residents and vacationers will spend less time in line at the supermarket and more time relaxing with their friends and family. In preparation, our staff of expert chefs has been creating a new summer menu, ideal for summer grilling, that is sure to be a hit in the Hamptons -- making BBQs and lobster bakes easier than ever with marinated and chef-prepped meats, produce, and seafood that require no preparation."

What Michaelson refers to is FreshDirect's Chef-Prepped and Ready To Cook menu, from which its customers can now take advantage of 10 new seasonal chef-prepared meals ready for the grill or oven and delivered direct to their doors.

In addition, FreshDirect will be sponsoring this year's Blue Moon Ball event, a benefit for EECO Farm in East Hampton, hosted by Christie Brinkley, her husband Peter Cook, and other environmentally conscious celebrities. FreshDirect will be providing fresh food for this exclusive Hamptons event, which will be held July 30.

Each chef-prepared meal is presented by executive chef Michael Stark, formerly of New York City's famed Tribeca Grill. Additionally, FreshDirect employs a pool of expert chefs and bakers hailing from some of Manhattan's hottest restaurants, including One if By Land, Eli's Vinegar Factory, and Ecce Panis, to create a menu that incorporates grilling fare such as fresh meats, seafood, and vegetables with high-quality seasonings and marinades.

Some Ready to Cook items that have been added include Lime and Cumin Crusted Skirt Steak, Sirloin Steak Paillard, Chicken Breast Paillard, Grill-Ready Full Rack Ribs, Orange-Ginger Glazed Shrimp and Mango Kabobs, Butterflied Coriander-Sage Cornish Hens, Green Bean Hobo Pack, Organic Dill-Shrimp Kabobs, Marinated Portobello & Plum Tomatoes, a Vegetable Medley Hobo Pack, and, of course, a Chocolate S'mores Kit.
