Harvest Market Taps into Solar to Power Store

FORT BRAGG, Calif. -Harvest Market here yesterday completed a 25.5 kilowatt (kW) solar electric system that the community-based independent will use to power its store and reduce its environmental footprint.

The system, which was designed and installed by REC Solar, is comprised of 152 Sharp 167-watt panels and one Xantrex PV30-208 inverter. It's expected to produce over 31,000 kW hours annually and will save the company thousands of dollars in electricity costs, according to REC.

"Being the largest independent retailer on Mendocino's North Coast, we felt the need to set an example of the importance of sustainable practices," said Tom Honer, owner of Harvest Market. "Many of our customers shop at Harvest Market for the wide array of organic, fair trade, and sustainable products that we carry and these customers place a high priority on a sustainable future."
