Latest Winn-Dixie Remodel Offers Vision of Stores to Come

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Extensive renovations and upgrades have made for a complete transformation of the 60,000-square-foot Winn-Dixie in Macclenny, Fla., which reopens today, the retailer said yesterday. It also noted that the new look offers a sign of what's in store for the future from Winn-Dixie.

The changes encompass more than just a facelift -- customers are finding an overall new shopping experience with new products, upgraded departments, and expanded services.

The store features a new floor plan and major improvements in decor, from color changes and brighter lighting to more modern and aesthetically pleasing shelving and flooring, Winn-Dixie said.

"The Macclenny store clearly shows the direction we are heading [in] with all of our remodels," said Peter Lynch, president, c.e.o. and chairman of the board of Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., in a statement. "We've changed the paradigm completely, to put the emphasis back on freshness and quality in a fun environment. That's a big part of getting better all the time, and it's what our customers, and our associates, deserve."

The store boasts expanded customer selections, including a new salad bar where customers can make fresh, customized salads; a new wing bar with multiple flavors to choose from; a new self-service soup station and hot bar; and a fresh muffin cart. Customers will also find an expanded organic section, a wine department, and a wellness center.

The store is commemorating its reopening with a series of events during the next four weeks, including a spring carnival, health fair, and walking cooking tour with Winn-Dixie corporate chef Robert Tulko.

Winn-Dixie operates 521 stores.
