New Jersey Whole Foods Unit to Host Nutrition Labeling Workshop

EDGEWATER, N.J. -- A Whole Foods Market here is hosting the first "Fabulous Fats" Workshop and food tasting today, intended to demystify trans-fat nutrition labeling, and equip consumers with practical guidance on how to incorporate healthful fats into their diets.

The free workshop will be conducted by Stacey Antine, MS, RD, founder of New Jersey-based HealthBarn USA, Inc., said Ellie Spray, marketing team leader at the Whole Foods store here, adding that the expert, "works with families every day" on nutrition and health education. "We are strongly committed to offering consumers high quality and delicious organic and natural foods, and like HealthBarn USA, we know that educating consumers about these choices are equally important," Spray said.

The workshop is designed to instruct consumers on how to interpret nutrition labels for saturated fat, cholesterol, and trans fat content. They will learn which fats need to be in the diet, which should be eaten minimally, and why. Practical demonstrations will show how to use a variety of all natural fats in cooking, baking, and as finishing oils in creative recipes. Also included is a tasting of organic cold-pressed, extra-virgin olive oils from Greece, Italy, and California, and oils from fruits, nuts, and seeds.
