New Shop 'n Save Signature Store to Open March 12
NEW STANTON, Pa. -- A new 50,000-plus-square-foot Shop 'n Save, the latest of the Supervalu-owned grocer's stores featuring a newly designed interior and expanded line of local and international foods, will open March 12 as the featured anchor at a renovated shopping plaza on Pittsburgh's East Side.
The store is the supermarket's 15th new prototype featuring some of Western Pennsylvania's most notable local brand icons, according to Lee Armbuster, Shop 'n Save president. "This new corporate store is owned and serviced by our parent company, Supervalu, but will feature our local icon brand strategy that includes a mini Wholey's Seafood Market, DeLallo's Italian Marketplace delicatessen and foods, Arbuckle's Coffees, Mancini Bread, Jenny Lee Bakery, and Sarris Candies," he said. "What's more, the store's open architecture and warehouse lighting make a bright, fresh statement, while at the same time making you feel like you’re visiting the marketplace in the Strip."
Armbuster added that the store is broken into 'zones' that offer international foods and music. "Customers will find a wide variety of foods and delicatessens that range from American and ethnic to Kosher and organic," he said. "We even cater to those with a taste for Asian fish and sushi, and deep-fried favorites from the South."
The East Side Shop 'n Save will retain established staples such as fresh daily meat, delicatessen, produce, bakery, and dairy departments. A pharmacy and dollar value aisle will also be included.
According to Armbuster, Shop 'n Save's decision to locate in the Village of East Side came about after learning how committed the community is to revitalizing the East Side. "We are proud to take our place in joining the local business and civic leaders who are dedicated to serving the nearby residents of Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, Highland Park, East Liberty, Belmar, Homewood, Wilkinsburg, and Brushton," he explained. "This project is an investment in urban Pittsburgh, and the East Side location fits perfectly into our plans to bring our customers the best that Pittsburgh has to offer."
A $700,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has been awarded to East Liberty Development, Inc (ELDI) to aid in the building renovation and job creation. Armbuster said experienced department managers will oversee approximately 100 local store associates being hired locally to operate the store.
Planned grand opening festivities include a private gala at the store the evening March 11. Invited guests include local business, church, school, and community leaders, as well as city and county officials.
